Comparison Of Bureaucratic And Non Bureaucratic Organisations Commerce Essay Example For Students
Comparison Of Bureaucratic And Non Bureaucratic Organisations Commerce Essay The Style of bureaucratic organisation has wholly different construction as comparison to the non bureaucratic organisations. The bureaucratic manner is preferred due to its proficient manner of disposal but for the new and little and average size organisations no bureaucratic manner is most popular. Here are comparings between these two: Outline1 Suitability:2 Use of Human resources:3 Creativity and Invention:4 Operational control:5 Time Saving:6 Motivational degree:7 Structure:8 Communication and policies and processs:9 Preferable Organization:10 Advantages and Disadvantages:11 Advantages of Non-Bureaucratic Organization:12 Disadvantages of non-Bureaucratic Organization:13 Decision: Suitability: Bureaucratic manner is more suited for big organisation but for new little and average size organisation the non bureaucratic manner is more suited Use of Human resources: In the non bureaucratic the human resources are more efficaciously and expeditiously used by the organisation as comparison to the other manner. Creativity and Invention: As the non bureaucratic organisations is more flexible environment so the more opportunities o creativeness and invention is in non bureaucratic as comparison to bureaucratic organisations. ( Stamm V B: 2008 ) , Operational control: In the bureaucratic organisations the control bid for operations are distributed while in non bureaucratic there is a centralized bid of control for the operations of the organisation. Time Saving: In bureaucratic organisations there is really long concatenation of bid and when the order is given by the higher authorization from top to down level it takes more clip to pass on while in the non bureaucratic direct orders are given from the higher authorization to the subsidiaries in order to acquire the self-generated response. It takes less clip and more clip to work is devoted. Motivational degree: The degree of motive is really high in non bureaucratic manner because the direct orders are given from the top degree and more wagess and grasp is given by higher degree to the subsidiaries straight while in bureaucratic manner the top degree has seldom communicate straight to the subsidiaries. ( Sapru R.K: 2006 ) Structure: Non bureaucratic construction is more volatile as comparison to the bureaucratic construction. Communication and policies and processs: In bureaucratic there is hapless degree of communicating while in non bureaucratic the degree of communicating and go throughing information from top to toss off is much quicker and faster. However, In bureaucratic manner there are written paperss of policies and processs and if any job comes they can decide it by utilizing that policies and processs while it is absent in non bureaucratic organisation. As in bureaucratic organisations there are more policies and processs which are followed by the employees and they feel no freedom and less motivated environment as comparison to on bureaucratic organisations where people are more motivated and more efficient to do the organisation more successful. Preferable Organization: As discuss earlier that the non bureaucratic organisation manner is more suited for little and average sized organisation while for higher or large organisations the bureaucratic manner is more suited. While I have seen that in non bureaucratic manner the flexibleness of work, communicating from top to down and motivational degree of the employees are high so they chase easy trail the end of the organisation. However every organisation has its ain manner and construction and it is non easy to make up ones mind for a peculiar organisation that which construction is best for them. After critical analysis I will take non bureaucratic manner because the motivational factor involved in it is the chief point for my organisation and as motive brings invention and creativeness in the organisation. .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6 , .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6 .postImageUrl , .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6 , .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6:hover , .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6:visited , .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6:active { border:0!important; } .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6:active , .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6 .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u8e99861291249e47785e971eaad93bf6:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: China Between The Fall Of The KMT And Mao Tse-Tung EssayAs in 1995 Herzberg says During work the different factors which motivate people and different from those which create dissatisfaction ** The factors which are normally involved in making the occupation related to occupation satisfier while the factors which define the occupation context normally relates the occupation dissatisfies . ** Advantages and Disadvantages: Every organisation has its ain manner and every manner has its ain advantages and disadvantages. So these are as follows: Advantages of Non-Bureaucratic Organization: Non bureaucratic organisation manner is more flexible and easy to follow the alterations in any organisation. As the authorization has direct communicating to the subsidiaries so the fast communicating makes the response quicker and efficient. There is no long concatenation of bid which saves the clip and efficient usage of human resources at its potency. Employees are more motivated by wagess and grasp by the higher governments straight which conveying the invention and creativeness in any organisation as the determination and working environmental are more flexible so more quicker to follow the planetary alterations which keeps the employees more antiphonal and responsible to trail the organisational aims. As there is no long hierarchy so any employee can be given work without any clip bound and place load. So the employees can take their ain enterprises and do determination in order to finish the undertaking without waiting the higher authorization permission. Disadvantages of non-Bureaucratic Organization: The chief disadvantage is that the construction is really informal there are non any difficult and fast regulations, policies and processs in the written signifier. There is deficiency of standardization so the jobs arise in the organisation on the same issues can non be solved so the work force are involved to set their input to work out the job. As the centralization of bid of control make the employees to depend merely on the top authorization or individual individual to carry through the operations or undertakings of the organisation. However every new little and average organisation will look frontward to be spread outing in the hereafter so this non-bureaucratic manner should be changed into the bureaucratic manner in order to manage the undertakings and operations of the organisation in more effectual and efficient manner. Due to the absence of proper processs and policies in the written signifier sometimes it s really difficult for the organisation to carry through the demands. Decision: Harmonizing to me the non bureaucratic manner has some border over the traditional bureaucratic manner as it is more flexible and easy to follow alterations in this modern manner of epoch. Although every organisation has aits ain construction harmonizing to its demands and size. Although the non bureaucratic has some disadvantages like deficiency of standardization and absence of written policies and processs but still it is suited for the little and average size organisations. However while taking the manner of an organisation it s all depend on the nature and size and the chief operations which is carried out by the organisation. At the terminal every non bureaucratic is turn into bureaucratic as it grows and gaining control more market portions. So in the start of any new concern the non bureaucratic manner is adopted while it expand than there should be written regulations, policies and processs which should be followed by the employees in order to work out the jobs and to achieve the major aims and ends of any organisation. This is a universe of alterations and hereafter is unsure so there should be some kind of invention and creativeness in the organisation and its work force should be satisfied with their work degree and duties. Thus the chief intent is to purse the organisation s aims and ends whether it is bureaucratic or non bureaucratic in manner because both have their ain advantages and disadvantages. .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728 , .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728 .postImageUrl , .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728 , .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728:hover , .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728:visited , .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728:active { border:0!important; } .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728:active , .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative; } .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shad ow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left: 18px; top: 0; } .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728 .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u05b065a9bb25033316afe98b89f61728:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: BUSINESS LOYALTY Essay

Although many of the same ideas are contained in b Essay Example For Students
Although many of the same ideas are contained in b Essay oth The Prince and the Discourses, these two works differ significantly in emphasis because they discuss two different types of political systems. The Prince, is one of the first examinations of politics and science from a purely scientific and rational perspective. In The Prince, Machiavelli was concerned with a principality, a state in which one ruler or a small elite governs a mass of subjects who have no active political life. Machiavelli addresses a monarchical ruler, the Medici, and offered advice designed to keep that ruler in power. He recommended policies that would discourage mass political activism and channel the subjects energies into private pursuits. Machiavellis aim was to persuade the monarch that he could best preserve his power by using violence carefully and economically, by respecting the persons, property, and traditions of his subjects, and by promoting material prosperity. The ruling Prince should be the sole authority determining every aspect of the state and put in effect policies which serves his best interests. These interests were gaining, maintaining, and expanding his political. However, Machiavel li did not feel that a Prince should mistreat his citizens. This suggestion is once again to serve the Princes best interests. If a prince can not be both feared and loved, Machiavelli suggests, it would be better for him to be feared by the citizens within his own principality. He makes the generalization that men are, ungrateful, fickle, liars, and deceivers, they shun danger and are greedy for profit; while you treat them well they are yours. He characterizes men as being self centered and not willing to act in the best interest of the state, and when the prince is in danger they turn against him. Machiavelli reinforces the princes need to be feared by stating: Men worry less about doing an injury to one who makes himself loved than to one who makes himself feared. The bond of love is one which men, wretched creatures they are, break when it is to their advantage to do so; but fear is strengthened by a dread of punishment which is always effective. In order to win honor, Machiavel li suggests that a prince must be readily willing to deceive the citizens. One way is to show his esteem for talent actively encouraging the able and honoring those who excel in their professionsso that they can go peaceably about their business. By encouraging citizens to excel at their professions he would also be encouraging them to increase the prosperity of the their state. These measures, though carried out in deception, would bring the prince honor and trust amongst the citizens, especially those who were in the best positions to oppose him. He laid aside the medieval conception of the state as a necessary creation for humankinds spiritual, material, and social well being. In such a state,a ruler was justified in his exercise of political power only if it contributed to the common good of the people he served, and the ethical side of a princes activityought to be based on Christian moral principles. Machiavelli believed a secular form of government to be a more realistic type. His views were to the benefit of the prince, in helping him maintain power rather than to serve to the well being of the citizens. Machiavelli promoted his belief by stating: The fact is that a man who wants to act virtuously in every way necessarily comes to grief among those who are not virtuous. Therefore, if a prince wants to maintain his rule he must learn not to be so virtuous, and to make use of this or not according to need. .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25 , .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25 .postImageUrl , .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25 , .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25:hover , .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25:visited , .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25:active { border:0!important; } .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25:active , .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25 .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u580d01e0ff249bdf56de27270e8c5e25:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: We Learn About Ancient Civilizations Through Literature, Artifacts, An EssayWhile The Prince is Machiavellis best known work, it is The Discourses, which portray the most about him. The Prince was just a pamphlet dashed off to gain influence with the Medici, but in The Discourses he sought to include his entire system of politics. In the Discourses, Machiavelli was mainly concerned with a republic, a state collectively controlled by a politically active citizenry. Depending on their institutional arrangements, republics could be either aristocratic or democratic. Machiavelli advocated a democratic constitution modeled after ancient Rome. In the Discourses his concern was t o preserve the liberty and independence of a self-governing citizenry. He emphasized the idea that a republic needed to foster a spirit of patriotism and civic virtue among its citizens if it were to survive. In addition Machiavelli rejected the traditional republican theory that social harmony and unity were essential to political liberty. He argued that factions and class divisions were inevitable in human society and that republics could be strengthened by the conflicts generated through open and widespread political participation and debate. Machiavelli discusses six types of governments in The Discourses, three of them good, and three of them bad. The good Republics are democracies, aristocracies, and principalities and the bad are oligarchies, tyrannies, and anarchy. Machiavelli states that the three good governments are similar to its bad counterpart since they can easily jump from one form to another. A democracy is converted into anarchy with no difficulty. Hence when a fou nder of a city organizes one of these three governments in a city, he organizes it for only a brief period of time, since no precautions can prevent it from slipping into its contrary. The only solution is to implement a mixed government, such as ancient Rome. Thus, those who were prudent in establishing laws recognized this fact, and avoiding each of these forms in themselves, chose one that combined all, judging such a government to be steadier and more stable, for when there is in the same city-state a principality, an aristocracy, and a democracy, one form keeps watch over the other. In general, the basic idea of The Discourses is the superiority of the democratic republic and the ultimate reliance of even the most despotic regimes on the mass consent of the people. Machiavelli did not construct an abstract and unified philosophical system. Rather, his orientation was practical, and his method was empirical and impressionistic. His political writings contain a series of generalizations taken from ancient and contemporary history about the possibilities and limitations of various courses of political action. One of the most distinctive and controversial characteristics of Machiavellis thought is that he did not devote much attention to the values that define the ends of political action. Instead he concentrated on distinguishing those circumstances in which a political act will have morally justified consequences from those circumstances in which it will not. In his view, political actions, much more than the activities of private life, have consequences that cannot be foreseen or fully controlled. Therefore, political life cannot be governed by a single set of moral (or religious) absolutes, and the political agent may sometimes be excused for p erforming acts of violence and deception that would be ethically indefensible in private life. Partly because Machiavellis subtle and ironic view of the relationship between ethics and politics has been widely misinterpreted, Machiavelli is sometimes perceived as one who manipulates others in an opportunistic and deceptive manner.

Hitlers Willing Executioners Essays - Daniel Goldhagen,
Hitler's Willing Executioners Fifty years after Adolph Hitler's failed attempt to exterminate the Jews of Europe, there still remains no consensus upon the causes of this event. Daniel Jonah Goldhagen, author of Hilter's Willing Executioners, attempts to provide a new approach and new explanations to the perplexing questions left in the aftermath of 1945. Upon it's publication, Goldhagen's thesis came under much scrutiny by his academic peers. Goldhagen's argument is that the usual historical explanations of the Holocaust do not add up. The Holocaust was not perpetrated by a small band of Nazis but by ?ordinary Germans? in the hundreds of thousands. The abrupt transformation of Germans from bakers, bankers and bureaucrats to mass murderers was due to a particularly virulent strain of anti-Semitism. Goldhagen's indictment focuses on the citizenry's complicity in three of Nazi Germany's institutions of mass killing; the Ordnungspolizie (the Nazi Police Battalions), the work camps where Jews were incarcerated, and the death marches from the those camps led by prison guards and their charges near the end of the war. While Goldhagen efficiently states the thesis to his dissertation, his organizational style leaves much to be desired. One of the primary problems with his style is it's irritatingly repetitive nature. Goldhagen simply reiterates his position, particularly in the opening chapters. In these chapter, on no less than five occasions, he states the need for academicians to ?reconceive our understanding of modern German anti-Semitism by applying the theoretical and methodological prescriptions enunciated here, including the dimensional framework, to a more specific analysis of the history of anti-Semitism in Germany prior to the Nazi period, and then to an analysis of anti-Semitism in Germany during the Nazi period itself.? (Goldhagen, 47) The immense size of the book does not provide continuing evidence to support the thesis, rather it redundantly applies the same information. Goldhagen's work consists of an introduction, six parts composed of 16 chapters and an epilogue: Introduction: Reconcieving Central Aspects of the Holocaust The Introduction begins with a compelling narrative regarding Captain Wolfgang Hoffman, the commander of one of the three companies of Police Battalion 101. In this narrative, Capt. Hoffman expresses his contempt for an order that commanded members of his company to sign a declaration which obligated the soldier ?not to steal, not to plunder, and not to buy without paying.? (Goldhagen, 3) Goldhagen points out that if an officer could refuse an order of this nature, there was precedence to refuse the orders requiring genocidal activities. The remainder of the Introduction sets the guidelines for his dissertation. Part I: Understanding German Anti-Semitism: the Eliminationist Mind-Set Chapter 1: Recasting the View of Anti-Semitism: A Framework for Analysis Goldhagen suggests we disregard the notion that ?Germans were more or less like us?. (Goldhagen, 27) Instead, to gain a better insight to the anti-Semitism which provided the genesis of genocide, we should study Nazi Germany from a anthropological viewpoint. An examination of Germany would reveal some similarity with our society, however there would be several differences. Namely, the conclusion that German anti-Semitism was integral to the beliefs to the ?ordinary? German. Goldhagen purports the universal conceptualization of the Jews by German society constituted the eliminationist ideology. Chapter 2: The Evolution of Eliminationist Anti-Semitism in Modern Germany This chapter is Goldhagen's attempt to provide a historical understanding of the anti-Semitic ideology of the German people, and the subsequent genocidal actions which occurred. The consideration of Judaism as a corollary of Christianity is imperative to understand the inherent anti-Semitic nature of Germany. Jews and their faith were seen as an affront to Christianity. If the Jews, the people of God , shunned the promised messiah, then something was awry. Either the Jews were right, and Jesus was a false prophet, or the Christians were right, and the Jews had been led astray. This theological impasse provided the initial antagonism between the two religions. However, the ?Christians conceived of their religion as superseding Judaism. Therefore, Jews...ought to disappear from the Earth.? (Goldhagen, 47) Goldhagen continues his historical evolution of anti-Semitism alluding to the concept of Jews as ?Christ-killers?, as minions of Satan, as usurers and as malevolent and corrosive members of society. It was these church inspired misconceptions of the Jews which would be ultimately responsible for the anti-Semitic fervor of the ordinary German Volk. Chapter 3: Eliminationist Anti-Semitism: The ?Common Sense? of German Society During the Nazi Period This chapter's discussion deals with the analysis of the relationship of German anti-Semitism during the Nazi period to the measures that the Germans took against the Jews. MEDIA COVERAGE FOR SELF-PUBLISHED WRITER
MEDIA COVERAGE FOR SELF-PUBLISHED WRITER Since newspapers generally have a policy of NOT reviewing self-published books its almost impossible to get a book review in any newspaper. Some papers go so far as to not review anything published A feature story about you is more credible and likely to generate interest than a review of your book. So look at your life and see what you have to offer newspapers readers. Do you collect Santa Claus dolls or trains? Have you turned your living room into a bird sanctuary where 50 birds fly free where your couch used to sit? Do you spend your weekends building tree houses for neighborhood kids? I wrote feature stories on all these people. When you can get a reporter interested in you running your 10th marathon, or heading up the drive to distribute sleeping bags to the homeless its very easy to work in, Oh, and I just published a book. If you have something in your life to pitch to a reporter OTHER than your book, youre almost guaranteed to be able to talk about writing the book in the article. Your self-published book may drive interest in something the public wants to know about. For instance, a parent who self-publishes a book on how to get through the diagnosis, treatment and outcome of her childs cancer to raise money for cancer research or her child, is likely to get a reporters attention. So is the coach who writes a book on how to introduce your child to sports. If you have a recognized expertise, most reporters will find a story in that. Have you written a book on the history of your town and had to go on some amazing road trips, or dig into old courthouse documents, or interview veterans in a near Are you related to someone famous who is mentioned in the book? You dont have to be Oprahs long lost sister, but if the towns local celebrity is related to you, then good for you! If youre a famous coach, teacher or political figure who self-publishes a book, chances are youll get the attention of any small town paper. Think holidays! If youve written a book on Thanksgiving traditions, or how to wrap Christmas gifts, or anything related to the big holidays- Veterans Day/Memorial Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas, Easter etc., MOST small to medium newspapers will write a story to tie the holiday to a local person. Dont stop at your daily paper. Almost all cities have alternative papers, and rural areas have weekly papers. If you live in a bedroom community then chances are you have a weekly paper whod love to write about your book. But read several issues of the paper FIRST, before you write the editor. Try to see if your book has relevance for the readership. There are all kinds of weekly papers for seniors, grandparents, sports enthusiasts, fishermen and parents. Try to find a paper (most are free and distributed at libraries, grocery stores and shopping centers) that caters to people who would be interested in your book. Dont try to get a grandparenting magazine to review your Sci-fi thriller. Do get a parenting magazine to look at your How I Learned to Get Offline and Love the Playground book on parenting in a high tech society. Dont forget bloggers! Many of the larger newspapers read local blogs and will pick up on any content that generates online buzz. The trick is to never stop marketing! You can do it!

Developments in the 19th Century that Drove the Shifts in Imperial Research Paper
Developments in the 19th Century that Drove the Shifts in Imperial Policies and Practices of European Empires during New Imperia - Research Paper Example Amongst others, these shifts included the moving away from the economic doctrine of mercantilism that focused on the expansion of trade and markets through strategic control of ports towards the establishment of large scale, formal empires by way of aggressive internal penetration of territory and the exercising of control over the geography and population in those territories. We need only a glimpse at a few statistics to see that these shifts had remarkable consequences. According to Daniel R. Headrick- professor of social sciences at Roosevelt University and author of The Tools of Empire- ââ¬Å"in the year 1800 Europeans occupied or controlled thirty-five percent of the land surface of the world; by 1878 this figure had risen to sixty-seven percent, and by 1914 over eighty-four percent of the worldââ¬â¢s land area was European-dominated. ââ¬ËThe British Empire alone,â⬠Headrick continues, ââ¬Å"already formidable in 1800â⬠¦ increased itââ¬â¢s land area sevenfol d and its population twentyfold in the following hundred yearsâ⬠.1 However, these shifts were not simply coincidental. In fact, the changes in the imperial policies of the Europeans during the era of ââ¬Å"New Imperialismâ⬠were driven by two major nineteenth century developments: the second industrial revolution, and the emergence of a pack of European nation states. Main Body Imperialism, as defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is ââ¬Å"the policy, practice, or advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nationâ⬠¦ over the political or economic life of other areasâ⬠2 To put this in simple terms, imperialism is the acquisition and buildup of territory and capital. However, the Merriam-Webster definition does not quite pin the proverbial tail on the donkey, for it lacks one key component of imperialism: what is the justification for this said extension of power? According to Edward Said- former professor of English and comparative literature at Colum bia University and author of Culture and Imperialism- the acts ââ¬Å"of accumulation and acquisitionâ⬠¦ are supported and perhaps even impelled by impressive ideological formations that include notions that certain territories and people require and beseech domination, as well as forms of knowledge associated with dominationâ⬠.3 Thus, the working definition for Imperialism from here on out is the combination of two previous definitions, which goes as follows: the policy, practice, or advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nationâ⬠¦ over the political or economic life others, which is supported and perhaps even impelled by impressive ideological formations that include notions that certain territories and people require and beseech domination, as well as forms of knowledge associated with domination.à New imperialism cannot be said to be only the policies of the elite because it was greatly supported by the lower classes in Europe. The main aspect of the c ulture of imperialism was the feeling of superiority amongst white Europeans. Many people had such perceptions because of being bound by Christianity and they believed that there was nothing wrong in forcibly Christianizing the conquered societies, which they believed was the main motive of imperial missions. Some viewed imperialistic aspirations from a secular perspective, while some followed Darwinian concepts in upholding their

Question 1. Impact of Language and cultural Diversity on Ammerica's Essay
Question 1. Impact of Language and cultural Diversity on Ammerica's Pluralistic Society - Essay Example By definition, a society is composed of a group of people who shares the same beliefs, values, interests, and activities. It can be an ethnic group, a community, or a country. In relation to this, there are also different types of society that exists and co-exists. One of these societies is the pluralistic type of society where power is distributed within the sub-groups in the society. Aside from distribution of power, a pluralistic society is also diverse such as the American society (Carroll and Buchholtz 6-8). In relation to this, the diverse languages present in the American pluralistic society had greatly affected the education system of America. The differences of language brought by studying within a majority culture bring difficulties to students that enter the American educational system. There have been an increasing number of students who speak other languages other than English which causes these students to be inarticulate in the English language. Also, due to the increa se of multilingual or non-English speaking students, the educational system must provide instructions in line with the mother language of the students. In this manner, the educational system must be reevaluated in order to provide the necessary instructions for all students. Also, the cultural diversity affects the American educational system because most of the time, the minority groups are continued to be taught with the curriculum that is not based on their culture. This is because the instruction materials, as well as the teachers, continue to teach through the usual American educational system. As a result, the student will eventually be affected in terms of his or her cultural behavior (Hardman, Drew, and Egan; Naylor 99). In relation to the business industry or the corporate world of America, the presence of language and cultural diversity also means that the workforce will be made up of different types of people. These differences encompass the different beliefs, cultural or ientation, gender, race, and ethnicity. Due to this, corporate America had used the term workplace diversity in order to cite such differences. Workplace diversity also plays a vital role in the manner of managing and handling employees from top to bottom. Also, workplace diversity, if managed properly, is an advantageous way of opening a company or an industry to a more diverse clientele. In order to gain optimum advantage of workplace diversity, managers have been trained with different diversity programs. Some of the few advantages of workplace diversity include acquisition of resources, advantage in the branch of marketing, and the ability to complement bilingual skill with the orthodox skills (Pride, Hughes, and Kapoor 252-254). There were also changes in Americaââ¬â¢s mass media during the time when the American society became more and more pluralistic. Many of the media outlets conceded that it was important to act upon the continuing pluralistic society of the United Stat es fairly. In this manner, changes were done in the attitude of the media in stereotyping. In the early 1980, many of the minority groups in America were represented falsely in movies, television, and even in novels and books. However, as the increase of language and cultural diversity occurred in the United States, many media outlets had employed and changed the perspectives on minority
